Virtual Public Meetings: Media Guidelines for Participation

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the City has moved to a primarily virtual format for public engagement sessions. Note that feedback from the public is also collected via telephone, for those who don't have online access.

Guidelines for media participation in virtual public meetings and public engagement sessions are:

  • Members of the media are encouraged to attend the city’s virtual public meetings and engagement sessions for the purpose of observation, recording and reporting.
  • While you may use comments from public participants in your reporting, we ask that you do not attribute quotes without the permission of the speaker.
  • Reporters who wish to interview a public participant or proponent can make the request directly in the chat function during the virtual meeting, or via email to kmaguire@stjohns.ca
