SJRFD Open House at West Fire Station

As part of Fire Prevention Week, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) would like to announce that Saturday, October 14, 2017 is designated as Fire Services Recognition Day. Members of the SJRFD invite you, the general public, to visit West Fire Station on Blackmarsh Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome to view the Fire Engine and Rapid Intervention Truck.
Some other Equipment on site will be:

  • Mobil One Hovercraft, a quick water response craft which floats on a cushion of air and can rescue victims on water, ice, snow and slush.
  • The Jaws of Life, as it is referred to, allows trained Firefighters to cut trapped victims out of crashed vehicles with ease.
  • High Angle Equipment, which is used to rescue persons off cliffs and during helicopter rescues.
  • The Hazmat Trailer, used when there are chemical and oil spills. On display will be the suits and equipment used by specially trained Firefighters.
