The City and partners encourage everyone from children to seniors to get out and get active on National Health and Fitness Day, encouraging in particular outdoor active free play as it promotes healthy lifestyles and social connections that support positive mental health. Based on the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity per week while youth should get at least 60 minutes of the same per day. Data from across Canada shows that only 15% of adults, and 7% of children and youth are meeting current physical activity guidelines.
