Maintenance

Bucket Truck Used for PruningThe City normally conducts roadside pruning operations from December to March. The purpose of this operation is to prune low hanging branches that interfere with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

In order to ensure unobstructed and safe passage, branches must be pruned to a height of approximately 2.5 metres (8 feet) over the sidewalk and 4.2 metres (14 feet) over the road. In an effort to preserve privacy, most branches will be shortened back to points of attachment at approximately the curb line, rather than the removal of the entire branch.  Branches above 4.2 metres in height will be allowed to develop normally.  Broken, dead or decayed material will be corrected or removed, as required.
