Child Care

There are multiple daycares and early childhood education facilities within St. John's that offer child care services to children two years of age or older. Most child care facilities in the city are government certified and regulated, however, before enrolling a child you should ensure that the facility is regulated to government standards. For further information on child care, visit Education and Early Childhood and check out the Early Learning and Childcare Directory for a listing of child care centres, family child care providers, and family resource centres in Newfoundland and Labrador, including St. John's.

There is one French daycare centre in St. John's, the Centre de la Petite Enfance et Famille des Grands Vents, phone 709-757-2850.

If you are employed part-time or full-time and require child care, you may be eligible for the Child Care Services Subsidy Program. In order to qualify for the program, your child(ren) must be enrolled in a licensed daycare facility.

Family and Child Care Connections is a community-based, non-profit family resource centre located in St. John's. The Centre provides programs and services designed to support children, their families, and child care providers. The Centre's website offers a Child Care Registry.

Grade Schools (K-12)
Newfoundland & Labrador English School District
The English School District (ESD) operates the English public school system in the St. John's region. The ESD also offers classroom French and a full French immersion program to assist students in becoming fluent in a second language. An International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, an internationally recognized university preparation program, is offered by the ESD at Holy Heart of Mary High.

Ecole des Grands-Vents
Ecole des Grands-Vents in St. John's is part of the province-wide Francophone public school district, Conseil Scolaire Francophone.

St. Bonaventure's College
An Independent Roman Catholic School in the Jesuit tradition dedicated to educational excellence in a Christian environment.

Lakecrest Independent School
Lakecrest is an independent school offering an enriched international calibre education.

Brother T.I. Murphy Learning Resource Centre
The Brother T. I. Murphy Learning Resource Centre is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides alternative educational and learning opportunities to youth.

The Marine Institute is Canada’s most comprehensive centre of education, training, applied research and industrial support for the ocean industries.

College of the North Atlantic
College of the North Atlantic is Newfoundland and Labrador's public college.  It is one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centers in Atlantic Canada offering nearly 100 full-time programs and more than 300 part-time courses.

Private Colleges and Institutes
