Labour Standards
There are laws and regulations in place to protect workers in Newfoundland and Labrador. Employers must adhere to the provincial Labour Standards Act. This legislation imposes certain minimum conditions on most employment contracts of service. The Labour Standards Act sets minimum wage levels, hours of work, health and safety standards, vacation time, and other employment related regulations. Wages
As of April 1, 2022 the minimum wage in Newfoundland and Labrador is $13.20 per hour. This is the minimum amount an employer can pay you per hour. Future adjustments to the minimum wage rate will be based on the annual Consumer Price Index for Canada. The new rate will be announced annually by government on April 1.
