The City of St. John's offers a wide range of fitness opportunities for people who are looking to live a healthy, active lifestyle.


Pre-registration is required for all fitness classes:

Course Name Description
Aquatic Fitness
Shallow Water
or
Deep Water
Aquatic fitness classes are held in the deep and shallow end simultaneously. These low to no impact classes involve high intensity movements that are designed to improve cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and muscle tone. Participants in the deep water section can use a floatation belt.
Adults in Motion This low impact class combines cardio and strength training for the older adult who is looking to meet new friends and others with common wellness goals.
Body Pump A total conditioning class designed to challenge each participant’s major muscles groups using a combination of equipment and effective body weight exercises. Participants at all fitness levels are welcome.
Core Balance Strengthen the core and lower back using a combination of equipment and body weight exercises. A well-rounded workout for all levels.
Ever Active A low impact fitness class that allow participants to work at their own pace to improve muscle conditioning, flexibility and endurance while standing or using a chair as support.
TIME Together in Movement and Exercise A community-based exercise program for people with balance and mobility limitations who can walk 10 metres with or without aide. Registration is on referral from a Physician, Physiotherapist, Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner. For more information please call 709-576-6972 or email inclusion@stjohns.ca
Beginner Yoga Designed for new students of all fitness levels to learn a solid foundation of yoga practice. All equipment used during this class must be provided by the participant. Please bring a yoga mat.
Intermediate Yoga This class teaches you how to improve upon the postures learned in beginner yoga and learn additional challenging postures. Beginner Yoga experience is required. All equipment used during this class must be provided by the participant. Please bring a yoga mat.
Mixed Level Yoga Beginners and intermediates together practice yoga fundamentals to increase strength, flexibility and endurance. All equipment used during this class must be provided by the participant. Please bring a yoga mat.
Relaxation Yoga Beginner Friendly Yoga- for Relaxation and Fitness- practicing Somatic, Hatha and Yin Yoga and Pilates Principles. Mindfulness is incorporated throughout the class and poses done slowly to elicit the relaxation response and increase body mind awareness.
Yin Yoga A quiet yoga practice that improves flexibility and circulation.  Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels and does not require previous yoga experience. All equipment used during this class must be provided by the participant. Please bring a yoga mat.
