Skating in St. John'sNorthwest Rotary Skate Park
The City of St. John's encourages residents who are interested in skate activities to use and enjoy the specialty skate facilities that have been built in every area of the city. Whether users ride bicycles, scooters or skateboards, they should use these professionally designed challenging facilities rather than roadways or public or private properties in the interest of safety.

Remember, always wear personal protective equipment (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, etc.) to stay safe and have fun.

Northwest Rotary Skate Park
The Northwest Rotary Skate Park, located in Mundy Pond Park (off Blackler Ave), is a radical 16,600 square foot concrete park that offers bowl and street skating/riding obstacles for the beginner right up to the more advanced user.

Park Features: Three-foot bowl transferring to multi height six to eight-foot bowl with extensions, escalators and hips. Small, medium and large banks with rails and hubbas and flat ledges. Also has stairs, tons of step-ups, transfers, gaps, rails, ledges, multi-fun box and more.

Community Skate Parks
The City currently has six outdoor modular (portable) skate parks for users to enjoy. They are located as follows:

  1. Bowring Park Skate ParkBowring Park (next to swimming pool)
  2. Kilbride Lions Community Centre (parking lot)
  3. Goulds (behind the Fire Dept on the Main Road, next to the basketball court)
  4. Shea Heights Community Centre (behind Community Centre off Linegar Avenue)
  5. Southlands (Teakwood Park)
  6. Quidi Vidi Lake (North side of Lake off The Boulevard)

Skater Tips
The City of St. John’s strongly recommends that all users wear protective equipment. The number of skating injuries can be lowered by following skateboarding safety tips.

  • Get a certified helmet that fits snugly, and is done up tightly under the chin.
  • Wear elbow and knee pads to prevent scrapes and cuts.
  • Wear wrist guards to prevent wrist fractures.
  • Wear slip resistant shoes with a closed toe.
  • Make sure the skateboard is in good working order (no loose, broken or cracked parts, non-slip surface on board, no sharp edges).
  • Don’t skateboard faster than your experience allows or faster than the conditions permit. Complicated tricks require practice in a specially designed area.
  • Only skateboard when in good physical condition. Do stretching and conditioning exercises before and after skateboarding.
  • While skateboarding, if you lose your balance, crouch down on the skateboard to reduce the height of the fall, and try to land on the fleshy parts of the body.
  • Try to relax your body during a fall and try to roll instead of absorbing the force with your arms.
  • Do not get towed by bicycles or motor vehicles.
