Residential Parking Permits

Residential Parking Permit

What is the Residential Permit Parking Program?
The City of St. John’s Residential Permit Parking Program is intended to provide on-street parking to those residents in the downtown that do not have access to off-street parking. It is only installed in areas where the majority of residents do not have access to off-street parking.

How do I get a permit parking on my street?
Permit parking is usually installed in response to resident complaints. Once a complaint is received an investigation is conducted by the Traffic Division to determine if there is a non-residential parking problem. The residents are then surveyed to determine whether they would be in favour of the program. The signs are only installed if a majority of the residents are in favour. Residents may obtain one parking permit for each vehicle they do not have off-street parking for and one visitor permit per household. Can I park my vehicle in front of my house?
A Residential Permit Parking does not guarantee a parking space in front of your house. It does ensure that non-residents are not taking up parking spaces on the street.
