The City of St. John’s is hosting its third arts forum, Arts & The City 3, on May 24 and 25 at City Hall.

Arts and The City 3 is focused on cultivating connections. For the City one of the key goals of the event is to determine the City’s role in facilitating connections between artists and arts organizations with the community. The event itself will help bring together artists, arts organizations, business, government and other members of the community to discuss how all stakeholders can work together for everyone’s benefit.

“It is important we always keep the lines of communication open,” says Deputy Mayor Shannie Duff, Chair, Arts Advisory Committee. “This event will help us better understand how we can all benefit by working together.”

Previous Arts & The City events have led to the creation of the position of Arts and Cultural Development Coordinator and the creation of the City of St. John's ‘Municipal Arts Plan: Planning for a Creative Future’. Now the City is formally seeking input from stakeholders to help the City ensure our Municipal Arts Plan remains up-to-date and relevant within the community.

“This event is an opportunity not only for the City to check in with the community, but for individuals and organizations to check in with one another, share insights and create connections,” says Deputy Mayor Duff. “We’re looking forward to gaining input from the community as we continue to grow and seek new ways to help develop arts and culture in St. John’s. It is critical that as the City grows and evolves we ensure the Municipal Arts Plan remains current and continues to meet the needs of all stakeholders.”

The event will open with a reception on May 24, featuring keynote speaker Ken Cameron - playwright, former artistic director of Magnetic North Theatre Festival, and also the Citizen Raconteur for the City of Calgary's Cultural Transformation Project. On May 25 a full day of consultation and discussion will take place, featuring a panel discussion on the theme of ‘Cultivating Connections’ with moderator Ramona Dearing from CBC’s Radio Noon and panelists Pam Hall, Jill Kean, Catherine Dempsey and Ken Cameron.
