Automated Garbage Starts June 11

Friday, June 01, 2018 - 1:30 PM
Automated Garbage Truck picking up a cart

The first phase of automated garbage collection begins in approximately one third of the city on Monday, June 11. Garbage inside the cart must be bagged to keep the cart clean, eliminate blown garbage and reduce odour. Regular garbage bags or kitchen catchers are acceptable for use.

Recycling
Blue recycling bags and paper yard waste bags do not belong in the cart. Please place these bags at least one-meter distance from the cart.

Sidewalks
Please do not block the sidewalk access with the cart. Automated garbage vehicles are equipped with arms that will extend out to reach your cart from the road.

Cart Placement
On collection day the cart must be in place by 8 a.m.

On most residential streets the cart must be placed on the road with the wheels against the curb and the arrows on the lid pointing towards the street.

On busy arterial and collector roads place the cart at the end of the driveway, not on the sidewalk. The automated arms can extend beyond the sidewalk to reach the cart in the driveway.

On roads without curbs or homes without driveways, place the cart where the property meets the road.

A short video outlining cart placement is on the City’s YouTube channel.

Damaged Carts
Damaged carts will be assessed by the City and any repairs needed due to negligence of the resident will be at a cost to the property owner.

Extreme Weather
The design is such that the carts will not blow away. To find out if your garbage day is postponed due to extreme weather sign up for reminders.
