Join the City of St. John’s and St. John’s Canada Day Committee partners for free family events from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 1 as we celebrate Canada Day.

“We were really fortunate during the planning process to connect with some amazing partners and artists,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “From sun up to sundown, Canada Day promises to be a fun one.”

The day begins with the Sunrise Ceremony at 6 a.m. at Signal Hill National Historic Site. A free shuttle service by Metrobus will run from the Signal Hill Interpretation Centre, beginning at 4 a.m.

Family entertainment begins at noon at Confederation Hill with bouncy castles, a kids’ carnival, face painting and a cultural concert. See our giant Canada Day Cake made from over 3500 Sobeys cupcakes and enjoy Central Dairies milk, while quantities last.

An evening concert featuring Connemara will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Bandstand at Quidi Vidi Lake which will be followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Should weather conditions not be ideal, the fireworks will be rescheduled for Wednesday, July 2 at 10 p.m.

“We believe in the importance of bringing together our community through supporting events that offer free family fun,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, Chair of the Economic Development, Tourism and Public Engagement Standing Committee. “The City’s Canada Day celebrations have become a great family tradition of which we are proud.”

For parking and traffic disruptions, including access to the Quidi Vidi Lake walking trail and dog park, the public are advised to check the City website or contact Access St. John’s at 311 or 754-CITY (2489).  Motorists are asked to use extreme caution when driving on any of the streets surrounding Quidi Vidi Lake as there will be many pedestrians in the area. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothing and exercise caution when crossing the street.

Pet owners are reminded to keep their pets at home and inside during the fireworks display.
