Canada Day/Memorial Day City Schedule

Residents are advised that due to the Canada Day/Memorial Day statutory holiday on Monday, July 1, all City offices and City-owned facilities including all recreational facilities, the Humane Services facility and the Robin Hood Bay Waste Management facility are closed with the exception of the City’s Visitor Information Centre at 348 Water St., which will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The regularly scheduled City Council meeting will now take place on Tuesday, July 2.
 
In the interest of public safety, a portion of the Quidi Vidi Walking Trail, adjacent to the rugby pitch, will be diverted from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 1 and the Quidi Vidi Dog Park will be closed. These closures are necessary for the Canada Day fireworks preparations and in the case of postponement, will be extended through to July 2 at 11 p.m.

Garbage and Recycling Collection
There will be no garbage and recycling collection on Monday, July 1. Residents are reminded that regular garbage collection (areas 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B) and recycling collection (areas 1A and 2A) will take place on Tuesday, July 2. Garbage and recyclables are not permitted to be put out for collection before 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Access St. John’s Call Centre
The Access St. John’s Call Centre is always open and residents with questions or concerns can call 311.  Counter service will not be available on July 1, 2013.
 
Parking
The City of St. John's will not enforce the Parking Meter Regulations on Monday, July 1 as per the Provincial Shop Closing Act; however, the following Notice to Motorists schedule must be followed:

The attention of the public is drawn to the following temporary variations in regulations governing traffic and parking in the City of St. John’s which will be effective Monday, July 1, 2013, in conjunction with Canada Day and Memorial Day Activities:
 
Sunrise Ceremony
 
Signal Hill Road - closed from 3:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. 
Parking and shuttle service available from the Parks Canada Interpretation Center and the Johnson Geo Center Parking Lots starting at 4 a.m.
 
Memorial Day Parade and Service

Queen’s Road – Church Hill to Cathedral Street – closed 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Both Parking Lots on the south side of The Boulevard will be closed.
 
Vehicles parked in violation or parked such that they are obstructing traffic will be ticketed and towed.
 
Parking will be available on a first come first served basis in the Memorial Stadium Dominion Parking Lot for persons with Mobility Impaired Parking Permits.
 
Motorists are asked to use extreme caution when driving on any of the streets surrounding Quidi Vidi Lake as there will be many pedestrians in the area.  Pedestrians are encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothing and exercise caution when crossing the street.
