The City of St. John’s celebrates its birthday with St. John’s Days from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22. Free events will occur throughout the City for all ages and interests.

“St. John’s is rich in culture and heritage and we want to showcase that while celebrating our city’s birthday,” says Councillor Bernard Davis, Chair of Community Services and Housing Standing Committee. “I would encourage everyone to take part in some of the many events planned this weekend.”

This year Admiral Johns, the St. John’s Days mascot, will be making appearances at several events.

The festivities begin on Friday, June 20, when Mayor Dennis O’Keefe fires the noon day gun on Signal Hill.

The Metrobus St. John’s Trolley resumes service with free rides on Saturday, June 21, with stops at most culturally and historically significant sites in the City.

One of the marquee events this weekend is ‘Windows on the West.’ Residents and visitors can explore the west end of Water Street with free admission to the Railway Coastal Museum, Apothecary Hall and Newman Wine Vaults from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 21.

On Sunday, June 22 join Admiral Johns at the St. John’s Folk Jam, a family-friendly afternoon concert at Prince Edward Plaza on George Street from 2 to 4 p.m.

Free birthday cupcakes will be given out at the City’s Visitor Information Centre, 348 Water Street, during the three days of celebrations. A complete listing of all St. John’s Days events is available on the City’s website, www.stjohns.ca
