Chase the Ace in Goulds: Traffic and Safety

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 - 10:00 AM

The City of St. John's Special Events Advisory Committee have met with representatives from St. Kevin’s Parish in Goulds and partners, regarding traffic and safety concerns as a result of Chase the Ace. The public are advised of increased parking enforcement and safety measures in place, including the addition of two satellite location sites to verify winning tickets at Goulds Race Track (65 Lakeview Drive) and RONA (53-59 Goulds Main Highway).

“Our Parking Enforcement Officers will be on site throughout the day,” said Councillor Sandy Hickman, Chair of Police and Traffic Advisory Committee. “In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, the organizer has implemented satellite location sites to verify winning tickets, and event attendees are encouraged to use these locations.”

Vehicles will not be permitted to park on either side of Main Road between Doyle's Road to Keith Drive on the day of the event.

“Through our Special Events Advisory Committee we have met with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, St. John’s Regional Fire Department, Safety First, and other partners to ensure that safety, access for emergency vehicles and respect for private property in the surrounding area remain a priority before, during and after the event,” said Danny Breen, Council Representative on the Special Events Advisory Committee.

During the event, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department will be on site to monitor the area, and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary will assist with traffic control and respond to emergency calls if needed.
