“A full schedule of events has been planned for three days and we are delighted to include a variety of activities that showcase the City’s culture and heritage,” says Mayor Dennis O’Keefe.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with the inaugural firing of the noon day cannon on Signal Hill by Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. In the evening, the Tuckamore Festival will host a free chamber music concert at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Saturday’s events begin with the Discovery Day races at Quidi Vidi Lake. Visit open houses and sites with free activities including, Windows on the West, the Fresh Fish 7 craft market at the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation, youth filmmaking with the Nickel Independent Film Festival, cheese sampling at Water Street Variety, artist collaboration and an outdoor movie night at Eastern Edge Gallery.

The fun continues on Sunday with the Whale Festival at Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site. In the evening, the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society will host a free concert at Rocket Bakery featuring talented young performers.

Throughout the weekend, the calendar features open houses and free events at Commissariat House and the Craft Council Clay Studio. Dancers from Neighbourhood Dance Works will perform throughout the downtown area.

The City of St. John’s will also celebrate with milk and birthday cupcakes while supplies last at the Visitor Information Centre at 348 Water Street.

“I encourage residents and visitors to take this opportunity to rediscover all of the amazing attractions St. John’s has to offer,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, Chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Standing Committee. “For the past 125 years the City has been known for its colourful culture and heritage and this will all be on display throughout the weekend as we celebrate our City’s birthday.”
