City Celebrates Senior's Day

On Thursday, June 5 the City of St. John’s will recognize senior citizens at its annual Senior’s Day event, taking place in the Foran/Greene Room at City Hall from 12noon to 4 p.m.
 
The theme for the event this year is “Good Health – Good Living.”
 
The day includes booths and exhibits, entertainment, food and a number of presentations on the theme. Invited participants include:

  • Francophone Association
  • Heart and Stroke Foundation
  • Canadian Hard of Hearing Association
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation
  • Office for Aging and Seniors, Department of Health and Community Services
  • The Canadian Diabetes Association
  • Canadian Cancer Society
  • Metrobus Transit
  • Employee Wellness, Department of Corporate Services, City of St. John’s
  • Urban Living, Community Services Department, City of St. John’s
  • Accessible Transit, City of St. John’s
  • Neighbourhood Watch, Recreation Division, City of St. John’s
  • Red Cross
  • Food Security Network

The special guest speaker this year is performer Sheila Williams, a founding member of Spirit of Newfoundland and recipient of the 2012 Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Medal for Cultural Contribution to Canada. Ms. Williams has a Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University, and a Bachelor of Music Therapy from the Open University of British Columbia, and truly believes in the healing powers of music and humour.
