City Development: Provincial Floodplain Mapping Update

The updated 2018 provincial flood risk mapping for Waterford River, South Brook, and Kilbride Brook, is in effect immediately for City of St. John’s development application review.

All new developments, or existing developments that have made application to the City but have not yet received final approval, are required to use the new floodplain mapping where applicable.

The provincial floodplain update must be read in conjunction with previously identified floodplains in the City of St. John’s, which remain in effect. The provincial government’s 2018 report and climate change floodplain files are available on the Municipal Affairs and Environment website.
