City to Open Shelter at Buckmaster's Circle

Sunday, March 12, 2017 - 5:00 PM

While Newfoundland Power continues to make progress on returning its customers to service, the City of St. John’s will open a shelter to provide a warm space, cots, snacks and hot beverages.

The shelter will open at 6 p.m. at the St. John’s Recreation Centre, Buckmaster’s Circle and will be operated with the support of the Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

The warming centre at City Hall will close at 6 p.m. when the shelter at Buckmaster’s Circle opens. City Hall does not have the capacity to operate as a shelter, which is the reason for the change in location.

A decision on when the shelter will close will be made as conditions improve.
