City’s new Strategic Plan Coming to Committee of the Whole

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - 2:00 PM

On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Council will release to the public the City’s new strategic plan at Committee of the Whole. ‘Our City, Our Future’ sets a vision for the City as a place where people want to live and work and where everyone feels they belong. The plan was built following a year-long process which considered input from the public, staff and Council and aims to provide directions for the next ten years.

“This plan continues our work to build an effective organization and outlines new strategic directions that are important to people,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “We have heard through our citizen satisfaction survey and our public engagement work around the plan and the budget process where we need to focus our efforts. Using this information and working with staff Council has identified goals that we want to focus on for the next three years. We are committed to sharing our plans and annually we will table our list of strategic initiatives and report on these.”

The strategic plan is based on four directions:

  • A Sustainable City – A city that is sustainable today and for future generations; economically, environmentally and financially.
  • A City that Moves – A city that builds a balanced transportation networks to move people and goods where they want and need to go safety.
  • A Connected City – A city where people feel connected and have a sense of belonging and are actively engaged in community life.
  • An Effective City – A city that performs effectively and delivers results.

“To realize our vision and achieve our goals we will work closely with our partners, our staff and our residents,” explained Mayor Breen.

Following the release at Committee of the Whole, Council will vote to adopt the strategic plan on March 25 at the regular Council meeting. Once approved, the plan will be posted on the City’s website and at engagestjohns.ca. Reporting on progress will occur annually.
