Correction: Vote by Proxy not an Option Under Elections Act

Incorrect information was provided to the public regarding vote by proxy for registered voters who are out of the City and/or province during the election period.

To date the City has mistakenly distributed four voting kits by proxy. Three of the four votes have been inducted in to the voting system and will be counted. The City and the Election Coordinator apologize for the error.

Voting by proxy is addressed in two sections of the Municipal Elections Act, which provides for the establishment of regulations for mail voting. The act was misinterpreted by staff who communicated to the public that vote by proxy was permitted, when in fact it is not permitted.

The City apologizes for the inconvenience and notes that this error has been corrected in the Election FAQs on the website.
