COVID-19 Update for April 30: Easing of Restrictions

Thursday, April 30, 2020 - 12:30 PM

In line with the provincial plan to begin easing restrictions imposed due to COVID-19, the City of St. John’s will soon be announcing details for reopening municipal parks and the Residential Drop-Off (RDO) at Robin Hood Bay.

City staff are working on a plan to safely open the RDO, and a further announcement will be made in the coming days on the exact opening date and hours of operation. Due to the high demand that is anticipated at the RDO, the City will take a phased in approach toward full service in order to ensure safe physical distancing and reduce wait times as much as possible. During the first phase, the RDO will be open for household garbage only and will not be collecting:

  • Recycling
  • Yard waste
  • Bulk Items
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Electronics

Plans to safely open parks throughout the City are also being finalized; playgrounds, sporting facilities, skate parks, hard surface courts and dog parks will remain closed until further notice.

It is anticipated that parks will be able to be opened to the public as early as next week; a further announcement will be made on the City’s website and through social media when parks are ready to open. Residents using the parks are asked to abide by any signs in place, to maintain safe physical distancing and to refrain from using parks for social gatherings.
