Cruise Season Gets Underway

The Silver Whisper Cruise Ship passes Signal Hill

Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Chairman,Cruise St. John’s, is pleased to announce the 2013 cruise season will get underway this week with the visit of the MV Silver Whisper of Silversea Cruises.

“The number of cruise visitors continues to strengthen each year and 2013 promises to be another great season as Cruise St. John’s will host almost 26,000 visitors who are expected to arrive on 15 cruise ships, which represents a 25 per cent increase in passengers from last year.” says Mayor O’Keefe. “Vessels from Holland America, Crystal, and Princess Cruise lines will make return visits to St. John’s again this year, while the MS Delphin, National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions and the brand new AIDAbella will make inaugural visits.” 

The Silver Whisper is the first of 15 cruise ships scheduled to visit St. John’s this season. The Silver Whisper will arrive in port on Wednesday, May 8, at 8 a.m. and is scheduled to visit until 5 p.m. The second cruise ship of the season will follow on Thursday, May 30, as the Crystal Symphony arrives at 8 a.m. and leaves St. John’s Harbour at 2 p.m.

The Silver Whisper, with 382 passengers, is on a transatlantic New York City to Southampton itinerary which began in New York on May 4.  The Crystal Symphony, with 940 passengers, is on a New York to Reykjavik, Iceland itinerary that begins on May 23. 

The season will conclude on Oct. 7 with the Carnival Legend visiting the City of Legends.
