Holland America Cruise Ship in St. John's Harbour

Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Chair of Cruise St. John’s, is pleased to announce that the City will host two cruise ships during the upcoming week – Holland America’s Veendam on Aug. 14 and Phoenix Cruise’s Amadea on Aug. 19.

“We’re very pleased to see the Veendam and the Amadea visiting St. John’s again this year,” says Mayor O’Keefe. “The fact that these two ships are returning is a testament to all that our city has to offer as a cruise and tourist destination.”

Wednesday, Aug. 14 marks the first time the Veendam will sail into the harbour since its inaugural visit in 2007. Besides St. John’s, the vessel’s 18-day ‘Voyage of the Vikings’ itinerary will include ports in Amsterdam, Ireland, Greenland, Canada and the United States. St. John’s is their first port of call in Canada followed by a visit to St. Anthony before continuing on to Maine. The Veendam weighs in at 57,092 tons with 1,350 passengers and 600 crew and will be in St. John’s from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

On Monday, Aug. 19, the Amadea with 600 passengers and 265 crew will visit St. John’s from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The ship’s 25-day itinerary includes port calls in Germany, England, Iceland, Greenland and Canada before its return to Germany. St. John’s will be its first port of call after crossing the Atlantic.   The Amadea will be returning to St. John’s in September, 2014.

The full cruise schedule is available on the City’s website.
