Emergency Preparedness Week May 3 to 9

Monday, May 04, 2020 - 12:00 PM

This year, the COVID-19 global pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on Canadians. While all levels of government work to keep residents safe; now, more than ever, we all have a role to play in emergency preparedness.

During Emergency Preparedness Week, May 3 to 9, it’s important to think about what you can do to be better prepared during an emergency or disaster.

The City of St. John’s joins all levels of government and safety organizations to encourage residents to take concrete action to be better prepared.

Residents can do their part in the following ways:

  • Know the risks – knowing the risks specific to your neighborhood, community and region can help you better prepare.
  • Make a plan – a plan will help you and your family know what to do.
  • Get an emergency kit – during an emergency you may need to survive without power or tap water. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in an emergency.
