Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is May 7 to 13, this year’s theme is Plan. Prepare. Be Aware.

The City of St. John’s joins all levels of government and safety organizations to encourage residents to take three simple steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies: know the risks, make a plan, get a kit.

Basic emergency preparedness starts with the individual.  When disaster strikes, you and your family need to be prepared to survive on your own for up to 72 hours.

There are many resources available to you, visit www.GetPrepared.ca for free online publications and checklists, follow @Get_Prepared on twitter for tips and information, and talk to your family about making a plan today.

Residents can enter to win a free emergency preparedness kit from the City of St. John's by taking our emergency preparedness pop quiz online.

Remember, the best time to prepare for an emergency is when there isn’t one.
