Employee Injured by Improperly Bagged Garbage

Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - 6:45 AM

A sanitation collector from the City's Waste Management Division of the Department of Public Works and Parks was seriously injured this afternoon after being cut by a piece of glass that was inside a garbage bag.

The incident is being internally investigated by the City, as well as the provincial Occupational, Health and Safety branch and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

Residents are reminded to please use extreme care when preparing garbage bags for the curb. Any sharp item must be in a puncture proof container or kept separate in a box that is clearly labelled as "broken glass" for example. We all have a role to play in ensuring our Waste Management employees can safely complete their duties.
