Envision St.John's Municipal Plan: Adoption in Principle

Monday, August 21, 2017 - 3:15 PM

On Monday, August 21, City Council will vote to adopt-in-principle the draft Envision St. John's Municipal Plan.

“When this process began we held the most extensive and exhaustive consultation process ever in the city, to solicit input from residents,” said Councillor-at-Large, Tom Hann. “This plan is reflective of the consultation process and what people told us. It represents our collective vision for the City.”

The draft Envision St. John's Municipal Plan, published in 2014, was prepared through a comprehensive planning process and extensive public engagement. It was recently updated with minor edits and formatted in July 2017.

“The draft Envision St. John’s Municipal Plan is the City’s blueprint for the future, setting out Council's policies on land use and development,” said Councillor Art Puddister, Chair of the Planning and Development Committee. “The Envision Plan is built on five key themes and one big idea – improving our city and its quality of life through effective planning.”

The five themes are:
•     Environmental Systems;
•     Vibrant, Complete Neighbourhoods;
•     Strong, Diversified Economy;
•     Transportation and Services; and,
•     Quality Urban Design.

The Envision St. John's Development Regulations are still being written. They are being brought to a public open house on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at City Hall.  The adoption-in-principle of the draft Municipal Plan will not impact the ongoing review of the Development Regulations.
