Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot at the Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility

The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce an increase in service at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot at the Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility.

The HHW Depot will be open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the remainder of this year and beginning January 2013, the HHW Depot will be open two days a week year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The increased operational days for the HHW Depot allow for a greater opportunity for the residents of the eastern region of our province to properly dispose of their HHW waste materials,” explains Wally Collins, chair of the City of St. John’s Public Works and Environment Committee. “It is important to not include HHW materials with regular garbage as these materials can cause serious damage to the environment.”

This increase in service comes at no extra expense thanks to the recently introduced Provincial Paint Recycling Program. With the paint recycling program up and running the disposal cost associated with paint from the HHW Facility has been greatly reduced, thus allowing for the extended hours.

The HHW Depot accepts leftover paint and other hazardous household wastes that originate in residents’ homes such as motor oils, propane tanks, compact fluorescent lights, batteries, cooking oil and more.

The HHW Depot is open to serve residents of the eastern region of the province.
