The City of St. John’s has lifted its ban on residential fire pits, fire bowls and ‘chiminea’ style devices, as well as residential fireworks.

“Remember, it is important to always use good fire safety precautions when lighting fires,” said Fire Chief Jerry Peach. “Keep your fires contained and at a manageable size, and ensure you have an extinguisher on hand at all times.”

As is always in effect, individuals who wish to do brush clearing, use a barrel for burning or any other open fire should contact the St. John’s Regional Fire Department for information on the permit process required.

The City of St. John’s will monitor weather conditions closely throughout the summer and may need to raise bans when conditions warrant. Updates will be posted on the City’s website, social media channels and through the local media.
