The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce that two free public wifi areas have been established in Victoria Park and Bannerman Park.

The wifi areas were made possible by a donation from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation to enable communities to better protect and assist those in need as a result of the pandemic.

Signs in the parks mark the best areas to access the wifi, located in close proximity to non-market housing locations and street outreach services; the zones are both located on bus routes and are walkable from shelters, transitional housing, housing developments and outreach service locations.

“There has never been a more important time than now to be able to access digital connection and we are pleased to now have these wifi zones up and running,” explained Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary, council lead on housing. “We are grateful for the donation from the Canadian Medical Association Foundation and appreciate the efforts of our staff to put these zones in place as quickly as possible.”

The City of St. John’s wants to create a city where people feel connected, have a sense of belonging and are actively engaged in community life. This project supports our strategic goal to increase and improve opportunities for residents to connect with each other and the City and build safe, healthy and vibrant communities.
