Heritage Award Winners

Built heritage in the City of St. John’s is a significant part of our culture. Each year on Heritage Day, the third Monday in February, the City of St. John’s presents the annual Heritage Awards to recognize individuals, businesses and institutions for outstanding efforts in heritage restoration.

“I’m pleased to congratulate our award winners for their dedication to maintaining and enhancing their properties,” said Councillor Maggie Burton, Council lead on Heritage. “The results of their hard work is something worth celebrating as we highlight the ways built heritage helps define St. John’s.”

This year, Certificates of Recognition have been awarded in several categories:

Preserving or restoring the original character of a building in Heritage Area 2 - Cindy and John Purtill for The Georgestown Inn, 50 Bonaventure Avenue 
 
Preserving or restoring the original character of a building in Heritage Area 3 - Linda Ebsary and Barry Oliver for Katherine House, 90 LeMarchant Road
 
Preserving or restoring the original character of a Heritage Building - Colin Krulicki on behalf of Royal Bank of Canada and Mitch O’Reilly on behalf of Gannet Construction for The Royal Bank, 226 Water Street
 
Rehabilitating an older building, including successfully integrating modern elements - Phil Maloney for Bannerman Brewing Co., 90 Duckworth Street
 
Rehabilitating an older building, including successfully integrating modern elements - Laura Bloomquist and Gary Long for The Parlour, 85 Military Road
 
Stewardship and long-term preservation of a building in Heritage Area 2 - Susan Green and Brenda Halley for 73 Monkstown Road
