The Heritage Financial Incentives Program aims to conserve heritage resources by assisting property owners to maintain buildings and homes located in the City's Heritage Areas (see map) or properties designated as Heritage Buildings. Since 2016 when the incentive program began, over $58,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 21 successful applicants.

Two types of grants are available:

Heritage Maintenance Grant up to 25 per cent of material and labour costs to a maximum of $1,000 for maintenance and repair to façade elements bordering a public street.
Heritage Conservation Grant up to 25 per cent of material and labour costs to a maximum of $5,000 for the preservation, restoration and/or replacement of façade elements bordering a public street.

Further details, conditions and application forms are available online. Applications are accepted between March 1 and May 1, 2018.

Since 1977 the City has been designating heritage buildings in its Registry of Designated Heritage Buildings  and property owners are encouraged to consider their properties for designation. Additionally, the City provides an annual Heritage Recognition Award Program to celebrate and acknowledge outstanding work on designated heritage buildings.
