“I Am Home” Refugee Photo Exhibit in Wyatt Hall

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 - 10:30 AM

On Wednesday June 20, the City of St. John’s and the Association for New Canadians (ANC) opened a new exhibit in the Wyatt Hall. The display features personal reflections from clients of the Association for New Canadians on what they like about their new community and why they feel at home in St. John’s.

“The City of St. John’s values the role of the multicultural community and strives to make St. John’s a good place to live for everyone,” explained Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary. “Hearing what makes this city special to newcomers reminds us not only of how valuable a sense of belonging is to everyone but also just how special St. John’s is. We are very pleased to partner with the ANC on this powerful exhibit.”

"The Association for New Canadians is delighted to be partnering with the City of St. John's again this year to help mark World Refugee Day. Each year, the Association helps to resettle some 200 refugees and many more immigrants who have chosen to make St. John’s their home,” said Megan Morris, Executive Director of the Association for New Canadians. “The I am Home Exhibit is a powerful reminder of the importance of home and the value placed on it by our newest residents."

As outlined in the City’s economic development strategy Roadmap 2021, the City of St. John’s values the role of the multicultural community and strives to make St. John’s a good place to live for everyone.

The exhibit, titled ‘I am Home’ opens on World Refugee Day and will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 21 to July 9, 2018.
