Mayor Danny Breen waves to the Kids

“What do you love about your neighbourhood?”

That’s the question Mayor Breen is asking the children of St. John’s to respond to in a creative arts contest the City of St. John’s is promoting on its social media platforms.

The children of St. John’s are encouraged to think creatively about their city and to respond by posting pictures or videos on the city’s social media feeds. All submissions received between June 10 -21 will also be eligible to win a gift prize full of fun family activities for the summer.

“This contest is the first event we are announcing as part of our St. John’s Days celebrations,” said Mayor Breen. “We want to see what it is that children connect to most about our great city. Where do they love to go most? What are their favourite things about living in St. John’s? In these challenging times, it’s good to remind ourselves of what makes this city special and unique.”

Families are encouraged to challenge their creative skills by using different items available within their households. Items to consider include drawing or painting a picture, building with Lego blocks, making a chalk image outside, using recyclables or outdoor items like rocks and sticks to create a collage, singing a song or writing a poem or story.

The contest is open from June 10-21 and a winner will be announced on June 23 as part of the regular Council meeting. Entries are accepted daily during this period. Only residents of St. John’s are eligible to win the prize, which will be chosen by random draw.
