Municipalities provide a range of services that residents depend on day after day and Mayor Dennis O’Keefe is using Municipal Awareness Day, May 7, to spotlight the City’s 1,200-plus employees who make St. John’s a great place to work, live and play.

“We all can sometimes take the very basics for granted,” said Mayor O’Keefe. “We turn on a tap and get fresh running water. We put our garbage and recycling to the curb and it’s picked up while we work. We call 311 and assistance is dispatched. We enjoy a picnic in Bowring Park on a beautiful sunny day. It all seems so simple, but behind the scenes there are more than 1,200 dedicated staff ensuring that all of the services we depend upon run smoothly every day.”

The council and employees of the City of St. John’s provide residents with a wide variety of services including:

  • Water
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Garbage and Recycling
  • Transportation Infrastructure
  • Recreation and Parks
  • Tourism and Culture

“I am very pleased to salute our employees and my fellow members of council for their dedication to the City,” said Mayor O’Keefe. “We work hard to ensure we are providing first class services to our residents, while remaining fiscally prudent. I am extremely grateful for the amazing 1,200 employees that go above and beyond each and every day and make our city one of the best cities in Canada to live in.”
