Municipal Plan Process Guided by Advisory Group

Thursday, February 09, 2012 - 12:45 AM

The City of St. John's Municipal Plan review process will be steered by an Advisory Group comprised of citizen volunteers from community organizations and the general public. The Advisory Group will provide advice, direction and guidance to the City of St. John's on its review process.

The group, which is chaired by Councillor At Large Tom Hann, Chair of the City's Planning and Housing Standing Committee, includes seven representatives from community organizations with an interest in development, as well as two residents who represent the general public.

"When we advertised that we were looking for individuals to sit on the committee we had an overwhelming response with over 80 residents applying for the two general public seats," says Councillor Hann. "This is the first time that the City has used an Advisory Group for its Municipal Plan review process and we felt it was important to include residents every step of the way as this is their City."

Members of the Advisory Group include:

  • Jerome Coady, Board Director - Downtown St. John's
  • Sandra Cook, Student Leadership Coordinator - MUN and St. John's Resident
  • Dave Lane, Director - Happy City St. John's Community Group
  • Ruth Lawrence - Actor/Writer/Filmmaker
  • Alternate: Sheila Perry - Director of The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery
  • Justin Mercer, recent graduate of College of the North Atlantic and St. John's resident
  • Paula Pittman, Architect and Director of Sustainable Design NL Architects Association
  • Sheldon Pollett, Community Housing Group/Choices for Youth
  • Derek Sullivan, Past President - St. John's Board of Trade
  • Craig Williams, President - Home Builders Association

The first event of the Municipal Plan review process is the Mayor's Symposium, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Foran/Greene Room on the fourth floor of St. John's City Hall.
