Neighbourhood Watch Awareness Day Event

Wednesday, October 09, 2013 - 1:45 PM

The fourth annual City of St. John’s Neighbourhood Watch Awareness Day event takes place at City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the Foran-Greene Room beginning at 7 p.m. This annual event celebrates the volunteers who participate in the Neighbourhood Watch program and raises awareness of how the program can benefit a neighbourhood community.

The theme this year is ‘Neighbours: Strength in Numbers’ and explores how neighbours can connect and discover ways to create even better neighbourhoods in which to live, work, play and learn. The supports that local community organizations and the City of St. John’s offer will also be discussed through presentations and displays.

During the event Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth will bring greetings on behalf of the City, while Deputy Chief Ab Singleton will bring greetings on behalf of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, an integral partner of the Neighbourhood Watch Program.

Special guest speaker Mark Hiscock, a community advocate, professional musician, chair of the Fort Amherst Neighbourhood Association and co-chair of The Narrows Group will speak about the positive benefits that having an organized neighbourhood association can bring to a community.

The public are invited to attend this event to learn more about what Neighbourhood Watch can do to help connect and protect residents to make a positive difference to their community.
