Nominations Open for Renovated Heritage Buildings

The City of St. John’s Heritage Advisory Committee is pleased to recognize property owners for a “job well done” in outstanding restoration work on buildings in the City's heritage areas, as well as the construction of new buildings that blend into heritage areas.

The Committee will accept nominations, or will nominate from information provided by the City’s Heritage Officer, of work that meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Preserving or restoring the original character of a designated Heritage Building or any old building in a  Heritage Area;
  • Rehabilitating an old building, including successfully integrating modern elements;
  • Respecting the character of a modern building in a Heritage Area;
  • Good signage;
  • Quality choice of colour; 
  • New infill housing that blends into its neighbourhood in the heritage area;
  • Good use of landscaping and site planning;
  • Stewardship of property and long-term preservation.

The program includes a Certificate of Recognition to be presented to the property owner(s) at an annual ceremony on National Heritage Day, Monday, Feb. 18.

Recognized in 2012 were:

  • Roman Halitzki Architecture for 28 LeMarchant Road
  • Killick Capital and Raymonds Restaurant for 95 Water Street
  • Jeff Reardon and Neal De Florio for 106 Water Street
  • Gary Holden and Earl Norman for 110 Water Street

Deadline for submissions is Monday, Feb. 11.
