Portugal cove road map of traffic restrictions

Preliminary work for a watermain rehabilitation project on Portugal Cove Road, from New Cove Road to First Avenue, is scheduled to begin during the week of November 6.

Work will take approximately three to four weeks to complete. Traffic delays are expected, motorists are advised to obey flagpersons and posted signage. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Motor vehicle traffic restrictions on Portugal Cove Road will occur between Elizabeth Avenue and New Cove Road. These restrictions will be in place only while work is active on this segment of the project. Restrictions will be:

  • 7 to 9 a.m. the northbound lane will be closed to traffic.
  • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. two way traffic will be maintained using flagpersons.
  • 4 to 6 p.m. the southbound lane will be closed to traffic.

The scope of the work involves numerous exploratory excavations to confirm existing pipe elevations, locations and sizing prior to the main contract work scheduled to start in spring 2018.

The water transmission replacement project is in response to significant water main breaks along Portugal Cove Road. The existing watermain is the original 100 year old watermain that connects Windsor Lake to the downtown area of the City.

Information about the project is posted at engagestjohns.ca, please see Capital Construction Projects.
