Public Engagement: City Website Redesign

Monday, August 26, 2019 - 11:00 AM

The City of St. John’s is engaging with the public on the redesign of the organization’s website.

Stjohns.ca is a key communications tool that provides a variety of information about the City of St. John’s to citizens, businesses and visitors.

Feedback gathered through public engagement opportunities supports the need to redevelop the website to ensure it is user-friendly and an effective communications tool. The website’s design and overall structure are dated, as web platforms and the way the public interacts with them have changed dramatically in the last decade.

We estimate it will take approximately two years to complete this project. The focus for 2019 is on gathering information. In 2020 the focus will be on selecting a company to work with to build and launch the new site.

Online Survey
Residents and others interested in providing feedback about our current website and what they would like to see in a new site can take the online survey, available at engagestjohns.ca. The survey closes on September 20*, 2019.

Virtual Panel
The City is seeking individuals interested in helping to develop a website that better meets the needs of the public. To serve on this ‘virtual’ panel, no expertise in web design or electronic communication is required – just a willingness to share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions as we work towards developing a new website. From time to time, you will be emailed questions and samples pages, and eventually provided access to the test site before it goes live to the public. As for the timeline, it would be on a contacted-as-needed-basis from the fall of 2019 until the site is launched in late 2020 or early 2021.

If you are interested in participating in this online panel, please email communications@stjohns.ca with your name, address and a sentence explaining why this opportunity appeals to you. The deadline to submit is September 16, 2019.

*Original survey close date was Sept. 13, 2019. Survey close date has been extended by one week, to Sept. 20, 2019.
