Residents Can Resume Normal Water Usage

Saturday, December 01, 2012 - 3:45 AM

Water levels in the reservoirs on the Regional Water System have returned to normal levels as the system had time to replenish as water demand drops significantly overnight.

“We would like to thank residents, businesses and our regional and emergency partners for their support throughout this incident at Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Plant,” says Mayor Dennis O’Keefe. “We were very fortunate that because of the rationing of water we were able to keep the system operating as we re-established power to the plant and resumed water production operations.

“This was a real team effort from our dedicated staff and contractors who worked around the clock, to our regional partners who came to the table to help and to all those residents and businesses who went the extra mile by rationing water,” adds the Mayor. “I am very pleased to say that less than two days after the incident we can all resume normal water usage patterns again.”

Residents are reminded that the City’s Water Conservation Order is a standing order of Council and we should all conserve water on a daily basis wherever possible. For more information and tips on water conservation please visit the City’s website.

Water rationing was put in place Thursday, Nov. 29 as a result of a fire in an electrical room at the Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Plant. The incident caused a power outage which kept the facility from producing water. A contractor injured in the incident suffered minor injuries.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
