Residents Provide Feedback Through Citizen Satisfaction Survey

In March 2018, the City of St. John’s contracted MQO Research to conduct the City’s first ever Citizen Satisfaction Survey and the results were shared by Council today.

The questionnaire was designed by MQO Research in consultation with the City of St. John’s. A total of 502 surveys were completed (313 landline/189 cell) resulting in an overall margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points 19 times out of 20.

78 per cent of residents rated quality of life as 7 out of ten or higher; 70 per cent of residents are satisfied overall with service; and 56 per cent perceive a high value for tax dollar.

“We are pleased to see the majority of residents are happy with their quality of life in St. John’s and satisfied with the services we provide,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “We recognize there is room for improvement, especially in key areas of concern such as perceived value for tax dollar. We look forward to working with residents to address their concerns as we start our strategic planning process which will guide us over the next three to five years.”

The survey addresses quality of life, city services, capital and operating budget, spending and elections. Information is representative of the city as a whole and each of the five wards; results are weighted by age and gender based on the most recent census data.

“These results help us identify and confirm strategic priorities, gaps in services, citizen perceptions on what matters most and a benchmark against which we can measure improvements over time,” explained Mayor Breen. “We look forward to sharing these results with the public and discussing how they and other data we have collected will help us shape the future of our City.”

The City will now begin the process of developing a new strategic plan which will influence the development of a new three-year budget plan.
