The St. John’s Regional Fire Department would like to announce the retirement of Deputy Chief Rick Mackey, Deputy Chief of Operations.

Deputy Chief Mackey joined the St. John’s Regional Fire Department on February 2, 1987. He was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant on March 1, 2008 and promoted to the rank of Fire Captain on April 3, 2010.

On August 10, 2015, Deputy Chief Mackey joined Management when he was promoted to Platoon Chief, and further promoted to Deputy Chief of Operations on October 1, 2018.

In the course of his career, Deputy Chief Mackey has performed many varied duties and roles including, but certainly not limited to, a firefighter, ranking Officer, being a member of the High Angle Rescue Team, and an Emergency Medical Attendant. He was also instrumental in many positive changes to our Department.

His calm nature, his respect for all members of the SJRFD and the citizens of this Region, and his fire ground management has made him one of the most respected members of our department.

Deputy Chief Mackey officially retires on July 1, 2020, after more than 33 years of service.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department, and I personally, wish Deputy Chief Mackey all the best in his next chapter in life and thank him and his family for his years of exemplary service to the Department and the citizens which we serve.
