St. John's Canada Day Celebrations - July 1

Thursday, June 27, 2013 - 2:30 PM

The City of St. John’s and St. John’s Canada Day Committee partners invite you to join us for free family events from sunrise to sunset on Monday, July 1 as we celebrate being Canadian!

“We were really fortunate during the planning process to connect with some amazing partners and artists,” says Mayor Dennis O’Keefe.

The day begins with the Sunrise Ceremony at 6 a.m. at Signal Hill National Historic Site. Metrobus will be providing a free shuttle service from the Signal Hill National Historic Site Interpretation Centre.

Family entertainment begins in the afternoon at 12 noon at Confederation Hill with bouncy castles, the Hebron Kids Karnival, face painting, Subway activities and a variety concert on the Memorial Stage. See our giant Canada Day Cake made from over 3500 Sobeys cupcakes and enjoy Central Dairies milk, while quantities last.

An evening concert at the Bandstand at Quidi Vidi Lake beginning at 8:30 p.m. will feature Siochana and will be followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Should weather conditions not be ideal, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 2 at 10 p.m.

“We believe in the importance of bringing together our community through supporting events that offer free family fun,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, Chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Standing Committee. “The City’s Canada Day celebrations have become a great family tradition that we are proud to be part of.”

Residents are encouraged to check Saturday’s edition of the Telegram and the City of St. John’s website (www.stjohns.ca) for more information regarding related parking & traffic disruptions as well as changes in access to the Quidi Vidi Dog Park and walking trails. Pet owners are also kindly reminded to keep their pets inside during the fireworks display.

Event details are available at the Visitor Information Centres at 348 Water Street or the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation. More information is also available from www.stjohns.ca or Access St. John’s, by calling 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489).
