St. John's to Host National Economic Developeres Conference

Tuesday, October 09, 2012 - 8:00 AM

Councillor Bruce Tilley, Chair of the Economic Development and Tourism Standing Committee is pleased to announce that St. John’s has been confirmed as host of the 2013 Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) annual conference. This premier event for economic developers attracts over 350 professionals from across Canada.

“We are thrilled that St. John’s has been selected as the site for EDAC 2013 scheduled for next September,” said Councillor Tilley.   “Hosting the EDAC national conference will complement the strategies and programs of the City of St. John’s and its various partners in promoting St. John’s as a location for business development.”

The 2013 conference theme Innovation on the Edge aims to generate new ideas and seek out creative approaches for economic development locally, regionally and nationally.

Also, hosting the EDAC conference furthers several directions identified in Roadmap 2021, the Strategic Economic Plan for St. John’s.

Representatives from municipalities, the provincial and federal governments, Memorial University, and the private sector are involved locally in planning the conference.

“EDAC is extremely excited to be in St. John's exactly 10 years from our last visit,” said Penny Gardiner, EDAC Chief Executive Officer. “We anticipate the conference will be a sellout attracting Economic Development professionals from coast to coast to coast.”
