Economic Development professionals from across Canada will be in St. John’s this week as the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), in conjunction with the City of St. John’s, host their annual conference.

The conference theme is "Innovation on the Edge" and over 250 delegates will be discussing methods to generate new ideas and seek out creative approaches for economic development locally, regionally and nationally. The conference will allow opportunities for a discussion of interesting and successful initiatives in addition to the keynote speakers and study tours.

“We are thrilled that St. John’s is the host city for EDAC 2013,” says Councillor Bruce Tilley, chair of Economic Development and Tourism Standing Committee. “This premier event for economic development includes an interesting mix of speakers, panel discussions and study tours of the local area. We are looking forward to giving the delegates a taste of our unique and special corner of Canada.”

“We are extremely pleased that this conference has attracted participants from across our country, literally from coast to coast to coast,” says Penny Gardiner, Chief Executive Officer of EDAC. “This promises to be an exciting event with interesting speakers including Zita Cobb and Seamus O’Regan.”

Zita Cobb is the president and founder of Shorefast Foundation, a registered charity that encourages economic growth and revitalization in the region of Fogo Island and Change Islands, Newfoundland and Labrador. Seamus O’Regan, who is originally from Newfoundland and Labrador, is best known as the former co-host of CTV’s Canada AM, Canada’s #1 national morning show.

The conference runs from Sept. 21 to 24. For more information on the conference please visit www.edac.ca.

EDAC is Canada's national organization of economic developers pursuing excellence in the field since 1968. The association offers its members professional development, networking opportunities and a comprehensive offering of resources, both on and offline.
