The City’s Ticketing By-Law Amendment is to address issues with vehicles parking in timed parking areas in excess of the set time limit. The amendment addresses instances of re-parking and abuse of the timed parking areas.

There are several free timed parking areas in the City with set time limits, ranging from 15 minutes to four hours. The clock starts when a vehicle first parks in the timed parking area. After the set time limit has passed, the vehicle is required to leave the area for the same amount of time that the posted time limit indicates. For example, a vehicle parked in a two-hour area at 8 a.m., must vacate the area by 10 a.m., and may not return to the same area until 12 p.m., after two hours have passed.

The main purpose of the time limit is to encourage parking turnover for businesses, especially those operating in areas that have experienced parking meter damage and theft. The regulation is currently being enforced and was made official in the Gazette on August 23, 2019. The fine for parking illegally in a timed parking area is $50.

All timed parking areas are clearly marked with signage. Please see the information sheet online for further details.
