Update: Emergency water use only

Thursday, November 29, 2012 - 11:00 AM

As a result of the incident earlier today involving a fire in an electrical room at Bay Bulls Big Pond Water Treatment Plant, residents must use water in emergency situations only as the plant is not able to produce water at this time. Major commercial water users are being contacted to discontinue their operations until such time as water has been fully restored.

Discretionary uses of water, such as dishes, laundry, bathing are prohibited at this time so that we can extend the life of our reservoirs.

Water rationing applies to residents of the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, Town of Conception Bay South, Town of Paradise and Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philips. In the City of St. John’s rationing applies to ALL residents regardless of which water supply you may connect to.

The Regional Water Committee would like to thank residents in advance for their cooperation.

At this time the incident is still under investigation and the City is unable to advise when water production will resume. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
