Virtual Event to Thank Essential Workers

Friday, March 27, 2020 - 10:00 AM
covid 19 update
In these challenging times, the City of John’s wants to thank those people who are still working to keep essential services operating.

From people working in our health care system on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis to our own City staff to individuals working in supermarkets, food banks, gas stations and other necessary services, we want to acknowledge essential workers.

Join us for a virtual, city-wide celebration of essential workers on Sunday, March 29 at 7 p.m.

“We want to send our thanks and support to all essential workers,” said Mayor Danny Breen. “To do that, we don’t want people to congregate as social distancing is so important at this time. However, we can ensure that these workers know we are standing with them while we are apart.”

In partnership with the St. John’s Port Authority, ships in the harbour will be leading a joyful noise for essential workers, broadcast live on the City of St. John’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.

You should not leave your home to participate in this event.
  • Make a noise for essential workers on your front step from 7 to 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2020 while you watch the harbour broadcast live @cityofstjohns on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Send a message of thanks and support through the City of St. John’s live feed to those people who are keeping our city running.
  • Post hearts and thank-you’s to essential workers in your front window. Share your pictures with us on social media.
